| Panna National Park
is 48 kms by road from Khajuraho. An area of 543 sq. km, it comprises of an incredible wilderness of valleys and gorges bordering the Ken river and countless post-monsoon waterfalls. It is one of the more recent National Parks dotted with living temples of a bizarre Spanish style that amused the Maharaja of Panna. The teak forest harbours tiger, leopard, Nilgai (blue bull) sloth bear, panther, cheetal (spotted deer), sambhar, chinkara (Indian gazelle) and chowsingha (four-horned antelope). The rare gharial and mugger crocodiles can be found in the Ken, which

passes through the park for 50 kms. There is a profusion of paradise fly-catchers, Madhya Pradesh's state bird.
Bandhavgarh National Park, located in Madhya Pradesh in central India, is widely regarded as the best in the country for seeing Tigers. The density of the Tiger population at Bandhavgarh is the highest known in India. The park covering 453 square kilometers is dominated by an ancient hill fort and surrounded by rocky crags, which are home to Long-billed Vultures. The park is divided into five ranges covered by Bamboo, grasslands and Sal forests, at higher elevations Sal forests give way to mixed forest. You explore the park in open topped jeep and by elephant. The extensive stands of Bamboo and grasslands are ideal habitats for Chital and Sambar Deer, the Tiger's favourite prey. Here you have the greatest chance of seeing this elusive animal.

Two game drives into the National Park each day. You enter the park by the nearby Gori Gate, avoiding the long queue, which are common during peak visiting times at the main Tala Gate. You are escorted by local naturalist guides and drivers who know the forest intimately. In-between game drives explore forest trails, which lead into thicker jungle and to traditional tribal villages. When the sunsets wandering Chital Deer, Wild Boar and Jackals, are attracted into the peaceful grounds and the well-established fruit trees attract many resident birds. While nearby the Indian Wolf and Wild Dog have been spotted. As we sip a pre-dinner drink, the evening chorus of the Mottled Wood Owl in the branches of the Sal trees and packs of communicating Jackals begins.
"The secret for fantastic Tiger sightings is to visit the very best National Park, have the best local naturalist guides and allow plenty of time". Ann Brooks
