Filming and special expeditions regarding the adventure tours and wildlife is quite famous. Various organizations like BBC /NGC/DISCOVERY/GRANADA have shown interest in filming the wildlife and adventure sports available in India. This has helped people around the world to know more about the flora and fauna of the world.
Wildlife Asia Film Festival has helped in filming and special expeditions in India. Valmik Thapar has been obsessed with tigers since 1976 and has also represented India in the Wildlife Asia Film Festival. He has a large number of recordings, filming and photographing of our national animal. He received the President's Award for the Best Documentary Film in the year 1981. He has also written a large number of books and articles on Tigers. Some of these are “Tigers; the Secret Life” and “Tiger: The Ultimate Guide”. The Ranthambhore Foundation has appointed him as their executive director. He is also a member of the International Cat Group and is known as “India’s David Attenborough”.
A large number of filming and special expeditions are organized from time to time in India. These expeditions are arranged at various locations and on different themes. Even photographic expeditions are also arranged. Some of these themes include Wildlife Filming, Culture Filming, Special Interest Filming and Adventure Filming.
It should be noted that a large number of photographers from all over the world and of international acclaim have been interested in filming and special expeditions in India. Some renowned organizations include Meter Films of Sweden, Nature Bilder of NRK Norwegian Broadcasting, Top TV Gmbh Germany, Exploration Production Inc-Discovery Channel of Canada, Swedish National Television and Greg Grainger Films of Australia. There are various organizations in India which also promotes wildlife and encourages culture photography and photography trips in India.
The filming and special expeditions required trained crew who will help the organizations to carry equipments and positioning them in difficult terrain, expensive cameras, heavy equipment and also getting them down without any damage. In the year 2004, The Zanskar Gorge was filmed successfully. In the year 2002, the Upper Brahmaputra was filmed. Both of them were captured mainly for international distribution.
Apart from these, in the year 2002, Ashvin Kumar made a short film called "A Road to Ladakh". He captured Ladakh at its best in this film. This film became extremely popular among the nature lovers and was released at different countries.
India's first reality show called "RAAAH” was organized keeping Spiti valley in mind. Nature has also been covered greatly in shows like BBC Wheels, Top Drive Getaway, "The Great Escape" on Star TV, MTV Roadies and "Off the Beaten Path" in Doordarshan.
